Welcome to 2021, everyone! 2020 was heavy AF and I had zero resolutions for this year because I felt that it was the safest and best option with how much happened last year. BUT one of my goals will be to continue sharing amazing stories from incredibly talented individuals for your knowledge, and hopefully, enjoyment π I’m so excited to share my next Going. Ahead. With Gage interview with a former colleague, friend and social media bestie, Rachel Miller β Global Influencer Marketing Lead at SAP.
What inspired you to work in influencer marketing?
It was a natural progression after years working in SEO, content marketing, social media marketing and community management. It combines all skills into one role.
What’s a social media trend you’re excited about in 2021?
It has been a long time overdue and very refreshing to see brands start to humanize their communications on social media during the last year. Less perfection, more proactivity. This trend will likely continue as brands and businesses strive to differentiate themselves amongst competitors in a purely digital world.
How do you see influencer marketing changing in the next two years?
Influencer marketing, aka word of mouth marketing, has been around since man started drawing in caves. We’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible in our modern world. New platforms are being created, allowing people to communicate and create in new and compelling ways. During the next two years, we will see some platforms go away and others take their place, but one thing will remain the same β people are influenced by people.
What’s your secret passion?
I love seeing others succeed. Helping someone achieve success and be their best self gives me great joy.

What’s something you’ve learned in your career that you’ve held on to inspire you to keep pushing forward?
You don’t need to be the loudest person in the room to be the most successful. Listen, answer thoughtfully and always be kind.
What’s something you do to keep your audience feeling positive on social media during this time where there’s so much negativity?
Other than being a general goofball… I share motivational quotes and reshare posts from friends, colleagues and people I admire who are doing great things. GIFs are a true gift to the universe!
“Inspiration and knowledge can come in many forms. Keep an open mind and be ready to absorb information from anyone.” @rachelloumiller in #GAWG by @GageGrammer #InfluencerMarketing #career #FutureofWork

What advice do you have for younger generations that are early in their careers and trying to work their way up?
Inspiration and knowledge can come in many forms. Keep an open mind and be ready to absorb information from peers, mentors, friends and even the guy at the coffee shop. Don’t expect to learn just from those older than you or specifically in your line of work.
What is one of the most difficult decisions you’ve made in your career and what did you learn from it?
I moved from a large city with very close proximity to a major airport (LAX) that allowed for each travel, networking, etc. to a much smaller, rural city expecting to lose all of those “work perks” but, instead, I retained them and gained much more.
Last question π I love book recommendations to help me grow in my career and challenge my thinking, as well as continue to share knowledge with my audience β what books would you recommend?
I always recommend, “The Freaks Shall Inherit The Earth” and “Everybody Write.”
Stay tuned for the next interview and, as always, thanks for reading β€ β Gage Grammer
